Chelford in-lamb sale sees 5000gns peak

Texel trade at the North West Texel Breeders Club sale at Chelford on Saturday (7 January) peaked at 5000gns for the pre-sale champion from the Sportsmans pen of Messrs Boden and Davies.

This sale leader is a daughter of the 145,000gns Knap Viscious Sid out of a dam by Milnbank Special One and sold in-lamb to Strathbogie Whiplash. She was bought by the Morrison family, Girvan, Ayrshire. Second best was another from the same pen and similarly bred and again carrying to Whiplash. She sold at 3700gns to P Castle, Washingley, Peterborough.

Next best at 2600gns was the Bradley flock of Robert and Ryan Bradley, Salterforth, Barnoldswick, with a gimmer by Tophill Union Jack out of home-bred ewe by Anglezarke Uno and in-lamb to Bryn-y-Coed Yogi Bear. She found a new home on Anglesey with Richard Hughes.

Trade then hit 2400gns for the Ettrick flock of Gordon and David Gray, Selkirk, for an Ettrick Sir Alan-sired gimmer out of a ewe by Glenside Razzle Dazzle and carrying lambs to Hallrig-Y-Not. She was again the choice of the Morrison family, Ayrshire.

Next at 2000gns was another from Knap Vicious Sid daughter from the Sportsmans flock, this time carrying twins to Knock Will.I.Am, She was knocked down to Chris Asher, Railford, Derby.

Following that came bids of 1900gns and 1800gns for gimmers from Peter and Rosie Woof’s Satinton flock. The dearer of the pair was a Sportsmans Tremendous daughter out of a dam by Stainton Richochet and in-lamb to Hexel Wildcard. She was taken by Graeme Morrison, Banff.

At 1800gns was an Anglezarke Uno daughter from the Stainton pen which also headed back to Aberdeenshire with Mr Morrison.

Averages, nine in-lamb ewes £422.33, 67 in-lamb gimmers £798.47, 18 ewe lambs £523.54 (Wright Marshall).
