Dutch Texel lambs led the way in the live lamb championship at the East of England Smithfield Festival, taking the supreme championship for Daventry-based David and Linda Wadland.
The Wadlands pair, by a Dutch Texel sire bred by the Prince family, Chesterfield, were also supreme champions at the English Winter Fair three weeks before and are out of purebred Texel ewes from the couples 500-ewe flock.
The winners tipped the scales at 91kg and also won the Continental purebred title.
Judge Matt Prince said his champions were a perfectly matched pair, being even throughout and well fleshed through both their loins and gigots. “They handled like lead and were just a superbly matched pair of lambs.”
