Texel lambs were to the fore at the first primestock show of the season, Countryside Live, Harrogate, with purebred Dutch Texels winning both the championship and the reserve championship titles.
Winning the Continental and overall championship were a pair of 94kg ewe lambs from Ian Clough and family's Wyn-Bank flock, Pickering. These came from their 100-ewe purebred flock and are by the flock sire Thacka Rascal and were described by judge Alex Brown as the perfect matching pair. "They handle exceptionally well all the way through, with great loins, gigots and shoulders." One of this pair also picked up the title for the best single lamb in the show too.
Taking the reserve championship were another pair of Dutch Texels, this time from James Whiteford and family, Tercrosset, Bampton. This duo, also ewe lambs are by Hunter Bay and weighed 46kg apiece.
