A brace of in-lamb Texel ewe sales at Carlisle on Friday (30 November) and Saturday (1 December) proved the ongoing and insatiable demand for top quality females of the breed from new and established breeders alike.
Friday's Twilight Texel Sale saw a top call of 7000gns paid while Saturday's Christmas Stars Sale shone brightly with a high of 18,000gns the leading bid of the day.
Continued investment in the best available genetics combined with top notch stockmanship have made the Procters flock of Texels, belonging to Procters Farm, Clitheroe, a real force to be reckoned with in the breed in recent years.
And so it proved at Carlisle on Friday evening when the flock secured the top price of 7000gns as well as two of the next three top priced to boot.
Taking the evening's top price was gimmer which sold to Stephen Cobbald, Suffolk, for the Lavenham flock. Mr Cobbald's pick was PFD1101027, a daughter of 50,000gns sire Haddo Ringleader out of a Forkins dam by Douganhill McFly. She sold in lamb to £40,000 sire animalmanager Scholars Twenty Twelve.

The next top price went to the Nesbitt family's Alwent flock when they sold at 3500gns. This was NTA1100268, a daughter of 18,000gns sire Allanfauld Rockafella out of a dam by Alwent Major Force and sold carrying to Teiglum Tennessee. Buying her were the Prince family for the Hightecs flock, Chesterfield.
Next best was another from the Procters flock under the charge of Jeff Aiken, with this being a 3000gns sale for another by Ringleader. This was PFD1101345 out of a dam by Douganhill King, she sold in lamb to this year’s Lanark champion, Cairnam Talisman and was taken by Gordon Gray, Selkirk, for the Ettrick flock.
Stephen Cobbald then bid 2800gns for another from the same home, PFD1101127, another by Ringleader and this time out of a Douganhill Masterpiece daughter. She was also in-lamb to Scholars Twenty Twelve.
Welsh vendors, Steve, Helen and Anna Smith then took 2600gns for their best from their PenParc flock. Sired by Tamnamoney Ned this one, SJP1101033, is out of a PenParc King Pin daughter and was sold in lamb to Stonebridge Stonker. Buying her was E G Morgan, Sennybridge, for the Blaencar flock.
And Jennifer Lodge, Moss, South Yorkshire, then paid 2200gns for one from John Mellin, Hull House. This was MJH1101497, a Castlecairn Red Arrow daughter out of a dam by Castlecairn Nairobi King. She sold in-lamb to 20,000gns Sportsman’s Supreme.
Another taking this price was the first from the Arkle flock of the Wilkinson family. Sired by Halley Pringle this one, WGA1100866 is out of a Garngour Nobleman daughter and sold in lamb to Teiglum Topper. She was knocked down to W N Douglas, Selkirk.
The final bid at 2000gns or more came from the Prince family, Hightecs, and was for another from the Arkle flock. This was WGA1100718, a Cambwell Rob Roy daughter out of a dam by Curley Orlando. She was also in-lamb to Topper and went at 2000gns.
Saturday's Christmas Stars fixture saw a sparkling trade for the best, with a top call of 18,000gns paid for one from Robbie Wilson’s Milnbank flock, Aberdeenshire.
Mr Wilson's sale leader, LYM1100374, is by 40,000gns Glenside Razzle Dazzle and out of a homebred Eastfield Merlin daughter which is full sister to the 13,000gns Milnbank Lion King. She was sold having been AI’d to 60,000gns Lanark topper Teiglum Tornado and was knocked down to John Forsyth, Maybole for the Glenside flock
Second best of the day was a bid of 10,000gns for one from Charlie Boden's Sportman's flock, Cheshire. This was BGS1100305, a daughter of Hen Gapel Royal Gold and is out of a homebred Mellor Vale Missile daughter. She was sold having been served by 16,000gns sire Milnbank Times Square to Graham Morrison for his Deveronvale flock.
Next best was another from the Sportsman’s pen, BGS1100224 at 6500gns. This one is a Cowal Rob Roy daughter out of an Anglezarke Nimrod dam and sold having been AI’d again to Times Square. She sold to a brace of leading flocks, being knocked down to Messrs Ruggeri and McCaffrey for their Ghyros and Scholars flocks, respectively.
Selling for 6000gns was the best of the day from the Innes family's Strathbogie flock. This was IJS1100064, another by Glenside Razzle Dazzle and this time out of a Craighead Hercules daughter. This transaction saw Charlie Boden reinvest some of his earnings, when buying this one for the Sportman's flock. She sold in-lamb to £40,000 tup Scholars Twenty Twelve.
And then a 5800gns saw Brian Buchan sell his first in the ring from the Clinterty flock to Messrs Innes, Strathbogie. This was BBY1100159, a Clinterty Par One daughter out of a dam by Ettrick Mighty Mouse and in-lamb to Knock Tarquin. She is a full sister to Mr Buchan's 6500gns gimmer sold at the Scottish National Sale this year.
A trio then traded at 5000gns, with the first at this money being one from the Innes family. this was IJS1100100, another by Razzle Dazzle and out of a dam by Millar's Outstanding. this one which goes back to Baltier Imp was again in lamb to Scholars Twenty Twelve and sold to Messrs Scott, Cornhill, Moray.
Second to make this money was another from the Milnbank offering, LYM1100433, a Razzle Dazzle daughter out of a dam by Tophill Joe. She was offered in-lamb to Teiglum Tornado and was bought by Kenny Pratt for his Hilltop flock.
The third and final 5000gns call for the very next lot in the ring, an ET bred Razzle Dazzle daughter out of a Glenside Lieutentant daughter. Again from Robbie Wilson, this one, LYM1100429, was sold in-lamb to Tornado and went home with Helen Hunter, Huntly, for the Foudland flock.
Following her at 4200gns was an ET bred gimmer from Charlie Boden. This was BGS1100348, a Hen Gapel Royal Gold daughter out of a Castlecairn Nile God daughter. Sold in-lamb to Tullylagan Tonka she was knocked down to Melanie Kellet for the Booley flock.
And making 4000gns was a gimmer from Robert Cockburn's Connachan offering, YSM1101555. This ET bred gimmer is by Baltier Rascal and out of a dam by Ettrick No Limits. she sold in-lamb to Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold and was jointly bought by Robert Bennett for the Plasucha flock and Daniel Jones for the Aldan flock.
